OBIARUKU/Nigeria: It was like a carnival for the people of Ukwuani Local Government, when they gathered at the Ugbeleme Primary School, Umutu on Friday, 22 December, 2017 where they were hosted to a Christmas and New Year celebration jointly by two illustrious sons of Ndokwa, Rt. Hon Evang. (Dr.) Ossai Nicolas Ossai, the Member Representing the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency and Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor, Executive Director, Social Services Development, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, (DESOPADEC).
Speaking at the occasion, the Executive Director, Social Services Development, DESOPADEC, Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor, said that the celebration was organised to celebrate with the people of Ukwuani and provide for them to joyfully join others to successfully celebrate the Christmas and New Year seaon.
Hon Ochor who used the occasion to commiserate with those who were victims of the cannon Gun Shot in Kwale, Ndokwa West during the Final of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Rally in preparation for the state Local government election the Previous day, said the period of the yuletide is a period of showing love to family members, friends, political associates and those who are in the need of others attention for them to move ahead in life.
The occasion which was made up of different personalities, comprising of chiefs, men, women, and youths from the area, saw over 800 persons receiving different kilograms of bag of rice, in an open field since his political career, as he had always given out yuletide gifts without making it public.
He said the open field distribution was just part of a larger celebration, as party leaders in the area, his private workers are also beneficiaries and other political supporter’s, majority who will collect their seasonal gifts from his constituency office and those of the traditional rulers and political leaders will be delivered to their homes.
“Before today, I am used to every year giving out gifts during this period, first as a sign of love, which the coming of Christ is all about, and to assists others to celebrate the season without stress”.
He also stated that despite his quite life, he is used to give to others, in the form of medical fees, scholarship and empowerment in businesses.
“Many had also gotten different form of financial assistance for medical and academic needs or any other as the need arises”.
Speaking further, Hon Ochor called on the people of Ukwuani to celebrate the yuletide in peace, love and joy, which is the spirit while Christ was sent to mankind.
