Since the February 2023 General Elections, the residents of Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency have found themselves inundated with congratulatory messages, social visits, and endless funeral attendance photos, prompting Ossai Udom to raise critical questions. “Are we content with mere pleasantries,” he asked, “or are we truly seeking substantive communication and tangible progress from our elected officials and political parties?”
Expressing dismay at the silence surrounding government policies and the lack of a robust opposition, Udom called for a more transparent and engaging dialogue.
“We, the people, deserve to know what our leaders are working on for our constituency,” he emphasized, “not just celebrations and condolences.”
Udom’s call extended beyond party lines, urging both the ruling PDP and opposition parties to engage actively with the populace. “Where is the active opposition challenging policies and presenting alternatives?” he queried, not sparing any political entity for their silence on crucial matters like the State Budget.
In his appeal for improved communication, Udom highlighted the need for accessible information about elected officials’ offices, their staff, and seamless means of contact. “We must know where to reach our representatives,” he stressed. “Transparency and accessibility are constitutional rights, not mere privileges.”
Specifically pointing out the current House of Representatives member, Udom recognized efforts in communication but pressed for a more robust information dissemination strategy. “We need to easily access constituency offices, staff details, and communication channels,” he urged, echoing this need across all elected and appointed positions within the constituency.
Furthermore, Udom directed attention to the Delta North Senatorial District Senator, Dr. Ned Munir Nwoko, calling for the public disclosure of contact information and office locations within the constituency. “Transparency isn’t an option,” he insisted, “it’s a fundamental right we demand.”
Emphasizing the transformative power of effective communication between leaders and constituents, he underlined its crucial role in propelling development. “Development thrives on robust communication,” he affirmed. “We crave tangible progress, not just congratulatory messages.”
He concluded with a reminder of the transformative impact determined individuals can have, citing Chief Amori’s extraordinary efforts in transforming Mesogar. “We must channel this spirit into effecting positive change,” he urged, “for the betterment of our constituency.”
Ossai Udom’s impassioned call for transparent and accessible communication from elected officials stands as a rallying cry for the constituency’s progress.
