Abuja: The House of Representatives on Tuesday was told in a motion moved by the member representing the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency at the House of representatives, Hon Ossai Nicolas Ossai on how nomadic herdsmen visited havoc on Ossissa Community in Delta state, killing and injuring villagers.
After listening to the disturbing story, the House called on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to mobilize the police to dislodge the invading herdsmen and urgently intensify efforts to ensure peace in the community.
The green chamber also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to members of the deceased families.
Speaking on the motion, during matter of urgent public importance at plenary Ossai revealed that the latest invasion took place over the weekend of 11th May, 2017.
He disclosed that the herdsmen deployed dangerous weapons, sophisticated high profile guns such as AK 47 which were allegedly used.
“The suspected herdsmen laid siege and invaded the Ossissa Community at about 6:30pm and beheaded a commercial motorcycle rider identified as Udoka Ossai and further killed six other people who are indigenes of Ossissa, Utagbo-Uno and Aballa communities in Ndokwa East and Ndokwa West local government areas of Delta State”, he explained.
According to him, the present situation indicates that tension has taken over the entire community of Ossissa, as the youth have taken it upon themselves to defend their community since the government has not done anything to salvage the situation, which will further escalate the present crisis.
The motion was therefore adopted by the House without debate while its committee on legislative compliance was directed to ensure prompt implementation of the resolutions.
