For the actualization of the prosperity for all Deltans agenda, through the sustenance of peace and security in the society, the media practitioners in Delta state and beyond have been advised on the need to be balanced and well researched in their reportage, to minimise the misrepresentation of facts.
The Deputy governor of Delta state, Barr Kingsley Otuaro made the appeal while congratulating the publisher of Gbaramatu Voice newspaper Mr Jacob Abai, during the official lunching of the newspaper’s website in Warri. Urging that the news media has a high role to play in the ensuring of peaceful coexistence, for the prosperity agenda to thrive.
While calling on all to identify with the newly launched Gbaramatu voice newspaper, Hon Julius Pondi and Hon Ernest Ogweze also pledge to synergies with the publisher to ensure that the good culture and tradition of the Ijaw nation is showcased locally and internationally through the newspaper. Just as the Commissioner for higher Education Delta state, Engr Jude Sinebe also noted that there was no better platform to showcase what the Ijaws are going through other than this.
Earlier in his lecture, titled; Media and the Niger Delta struggle: the Gbaramatu Voice experience, the head of department, Niger Delta University Bayelsa state Dr Ben Binebai, has advocated for state creation and self-determination of the Ijaw people. Noting that “resource control will be meaningless unless we have a state of our own.”
Dr Binebai while calling for support for the publisher, also condemned the proposed scrap of the Nigerian Maritime academy Okerenkoko, inspite of meeting the requirement
