Oghenemine Million Ogidi , Killed by Trigger Happy Police Officer in Ekpan, Delta State

ABUJA/Nigeria: A wave of grief and outrage has trailed the reported killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Million Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, with the lawmaker representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Omueya Dafinone, condemning the incident as a “heinous act” and calling for urgent justice.

In a strongly worded statement personally signed by the senator, Dafinone expressed “deep shock and profound sadness” over the death of the young man from Ujevwu in Udu Local Government Area, who was reportedly killed on April 26, 2026. He decried what he described as an extrajudicial killing, insisting that the sanctity of human life must never be compromised by those entrusted with the protection of citizens.

The senator extended his condolences to the bereaved family and the Udu community, lamenting the trauma of losing a young life under what he termed avoidable circumstances. “No parent should have to endure the agony of burying a child in such a tragic and preventable manner,” he said, noting that the incident has further heightened concerns over the conduct of some security operatives.

Dafinone called on the Nigeria Police Force leadership, particularly the Inspector General of Police and the Delta State Commissioner of Police, to immediately commence a thorough and transparent investigation into the killing. He stressed that any officer found culpable must be brought to justice, vowing that his office would closely monitor the process to ensure accountability.

He further urged residents of Udu and the wider public to remain calm and law-abiding, even as they demand justice, cautioning against actions that could undermine ongoing investigations. At the same time, the senator charged security personnel operating within the district to adhere strictly to professional standards and rules of engagement.

“Protecting lives, not taking them, must remain the primary duty of every officer,” he stated, adding that sustained advocacy would continue for a security framework that respects the rights and dignity of all citizens.

The incident has since sparked renewed calls for police reform and accountability across Delta State, with stakeholders insisting that justice for the deceased must serve as a deterrent against future abuses.
