Outstanding Students Recognized by Namita Mazumdar Endowment Fund

UGHELLI/Nigeria: In a heartwarming demonstration of alma mater dedication, the former students of Anglican Girls Grammar School (AGGS) in Ughelli orchestrated a memorable awards ceremony, celebrating the excellence of six standout students at a recent event.

This annual Award/Prize ceremony, now in its third successful year, is a collaborative effort between the Namita Mazumdar Endowment Fund (NMEF) and AGGS, Ughelli.

Established by Mrs. Namita Mazumdar, a distinguished former Principal of the school, the NMEF operates under the guidance of a Board of Trustees chaired by Mrs. Stellamaris Ufuoma Omu, a revered figure in education circles due to her tenure as a retired School Principal and notable contributions to education.

The primary goal of the Endowment Fund is to foster and uphold high standards of discipline among the students of AGGS, Ughelli.

The 2023 event saw six deserving students from Senior Secondary School (SSS) and Junior Secondary School (JSS) clinch these coveted awards/prizes.

Mr. Cyril Ogude, an esteemed alumnus of Government College Ughelli, presided as the Chairman of the occasion, generously contributing to the philanthropic spirit of the gathering.

The keynote address, “Career Prospects in Information and Communication Technology and Guidance & Counselling,” was delivered by Prof. Mrs. Francisca U. Egbokhare, an alumna from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Benin. Her address provided invaluable guidance to the students regarding their future career paths.

Honourable Mrs. Palestine Eghove, representing the class of 1977, took center stage as the Mother of the Day. In a symbolic gesture, she led the donation for a new School Sign Board on behalf of her class, which was unveiled and dedicated during the event.

The distinguished Special Guest of Honour was His Grace, Most Rev. Cyril Odiboroghene Odutemu, Archbishop of the Bendel Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese of the Anglican Communion.

Prof. Ngozi Iloh, reflecting on the successful event, highlighted the impressive attendance both physically and virtually. Notably present were Dame Rosaline Edobor, JP (Chairman, Diocesan Education Advisers’ Committee), Rev. Atevure Ezekiel College (Principal of the School), Rev. Canon Godblessing Igho Anago, JP (Immediate Past Principal), alongside alumni, faculty, staff, current students, awardees, and past awardees.

The 2023 awardees, spanning both SSS and JSS categories, showcased exceptional merit:

  1. Miss Esikomunu Floxxy Akpevweoghene – SSS
  2. Miss Jemifor Ikuesiri – SSS
  3. Miss Echerebor Angel Oghenetekevwe – SSS
  4. Miss Ibagere Enifome – JSS
  5. Miss Anago Uvietobore Dominant – JSS
  6. Miss Odjighere Oghenetejiri – JSS

Prof. Iloh emphasized that the NMEF, initiated in 2021, has galvanized AGGS alumni worldwide, underscoring their growing commitment to supporting their alma mater.

She further noted the notable success of past SSS awardees in their chosen university careers, both within the country and abroad, hinting at the promising future accomplishments of these young talents.

“We anticipate even greater achievements in the years to come,” added Iloh, expressing enthusiasm for the future endeavors of the NMEF and AGGS.
