WARRI/Nigeria: Overland Airways, Nigeria’s longest-serving private domestic airline, has resumed scheduled flight operations to Warri (Osubi Airport) from Lagos and Abuja, reinforcing regional air connectivity and economic integration in Delta State.
The resumption, officially announced during a press briefing at Osubi Airport on Tuesday, May 20, marks a strategic expansion in response to growing passenger demand for consistent air travel options linking Warri to Nigeria’s major cities.
Chief Operating Officer of Overland Airways, Mrs. Aderonke Emmanuel-James, said the airline’s return is aimed at supporting vital economic and social linkages. “This flight will support important economic and social linkages between the people of Delta State and other parts of Nigeria,” she stated.
The airline will operate thrice-weekly flights—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—on the Warri-Lagos and Warri-Abuja routes, with a morning schedule tailored to meet business and leisure travel needs. The new 88-seater Embraer E175 jet, featuring both Premium and Economy Class, will serve the route, signifying Overland’s transition to a modern mixed fleet.
To encourage patronage, the airline has introduced discounted fares and enhanced passenger services. “We are launching with incentives that make flying more accessible, while maintaining our premium onboard experience,” Emmanuel-James noted, adding that a shift to daily service would depend on passenger traffic.
Osubi Airport Manager, Mr. Winston Egwuatu, reaffirmed the airport’s readiness for full operations and described the partnership with Overland Airways as a boost for Delta State’s aviation infrastructure and economy.
The airline’s expansion also includes restored flights to Jalingo and new services to Minna, strengthening its nationwide presence. Overland, which began operations in 2002, recently earned its fifth consecutive IOSA certification, underscoring its commitment to safety and reliability.
Mrs. Emmanuel-James concluded by reaffirming Overland’s readiness to collaborate with the Delta State Government to transform Warri into a regional aviation hub.
