Asaba: The member representing Isoko North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Tim Owhefere, has resumed his seat as the Majority Leader of the House after the suspension slammed on him by the House was lifted during Tuesday’s plenary.
Hon. Owhefere, at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed profound gratitude to his colleagues for lifting the three months suspension and allowing him resume his seat as the Leader of the House.
He particularly commended the member representing Isoko South II, Hon. Johnson Erijo, who was elected as Majority Leader in the wake of the recent change in the leadership of the House for his love and understanding, adding that the issue was capable of heating up the polity, not only in the state legislature, but back home in Isoko nation, but that the maturity Erijo displayed proved invaluable in dousing the palpable tension.
Hon. Owhefere promised that as the leader of the House, he would redouble his efforts in serving the House diligently, in line with the rules of the House, even as he congratulated Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on his emergence as the new Speaker of the Delta State legislature.
Meanwhile, a bill to provide for a law to impose and collect through electronic fiscal device and electronic cash receipt, consumption tax of goods and services bought and consumed in hotels, restaurants, departmental stores and entertainment centres in Delta State passed first reading in the Delta State House of Assembly.
The bill, contained in a letter of notification from the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, which was read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, seeks to expand the scope of taxation in the state.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere ,moved that the bill be accepted and read for the first time and was seconded by the member representing Udu Constituency, Hon. Peter Uviejitobor and the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Oboro Preyor,seconded hearing of the bill was slated for Tuesday, May 30, by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
