IBADAN/Nigeria: The Oyo State Government has unveiled plans to finalize the construction of the Iwo-road Mega Terminals, with a targeted completion date set for February 2024. These terminals, consisting of two imposing structures strategically positioned in a central location, have been designed to facilitate the movement of commuters and drivers traveling between Iwo-road and various destinations across the country.
The Mega Terminals boast a range of impressive features, including a pedestrian bridge that connects both structures, ensuring the seamless movement of pedestrians and commuters across the bustling express road. Additionally, the terminals offer a sprawling parking space and modern amenities aimed at enhancing the overall commuting experience.
This pivotal update was disclosed by Professor Dahud Kehinde Sangodoyin, the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, during a recent inspection of the ongoing projects. Professor Sangodoyin emphasized that Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde’s vision for these terminals is to elevate the state’s transport system to international standards, enabling them to compete with the world’s most modern transportation hubs.
The commissioner underscored the administration’s commitment to ushering in modernization through various infrastructure projects initiated since its inception. He stated, “What we have so far is that work has commenced, and we hope that with the pace at which the work is going, it will be completed in the next six months, which is the end of February 2024, and perhaps move to the commissioning.”
He further elaborated on the significance of the terminals, explaining that they serve as a vital transportation hub in Ibadan city, connecting various regions of the country, including the North, East, and other parts of the South-West.
Moreover, Professor Sangodoyin assured the public of their safety and convenience within the terminals, highlighting the inclusion of essential social amenities such as a shopping complex, secure parking spaces, comfortable seating areas, and modern restrooms. These features aim to enhance the commuting experience and ensure the safety of lives and properties.
During the inspection, attention was also directed towards the ongoing Junction Improvement project at Yidi Gate, where the commissioner instructed the contractor to establish an alternative route to alleviate traffic congestion in the area. The inspection encompassed the Omololu Olunloyo Monumental Park junction as well.
Engineer Olatunde Raphael, the Technical Manager from Planning Project Limited overseeing the construction, confirmed that the project had achieved a 60% completion rate. He emphasized that the most critical phase, the structural framework, was nearing completion and expressed confidence that, with the government’s support, the project would meet the stipulated completion deadline.
As the Iwo-road Mega Terminals approach their final stages of construction, the state government’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure and promoting economic growth remains steadfast, promising a brighter future for commuters and travelers alike.
