IBADAN/Nigeria: The Oyo State government took a bold step towards revitalizing its public health law by inaugurating a 20-man committee. This committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the existing legislation to bring it in line with present realities and effectively address health challenges within the state.
The committee which comprises representatives from various ministries, agencies, law enforcement bodies, health institutions, civil society organizations, and more was inaugurated on Friday, July 28, 2023, in Ibadan.
Dr. Olusoji Adeyanju, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, shared insights with journalists immediately after the inauguration at the Ministry’s Conference Hall. Dr. Adeyanju emphasized the significance of preserving and promoting community health, stating that the revised law would play a pivotal role in mitigating the outbreak of both emerging and re-emerging diseases.
“The task ahead of the committee is to ensure the law reflects the current reality on the ground in the health sector and addresses public health issues of utmost importance,” said Dr. Adeyanju, urging the committee members to collaboratively devise effective and enduring laws.
