Oyo State Mineral Development Agency Takes Decisive Action Against Unlawful Mining Operations ….Seals Sequia Mining Industry and Eminent Quarry for Non-compliance

IBADAN/Nigeria: In a move aimed at restoring order and compliance within the mining sector, the Oyo State Mineral Development Agency has taken proactive measures by sealing mining sites operating without the necessary consent letters and community development agreements.

The revelation came to light during a press briefing in Ibadan, where the Director General (DG) of the Agency, Mr Abiodun Oni, addressed the media shortly after the enforcement exercise. Mr Oni emphasized the agency’s commitment to curbing illegal activities within the mining sector for the overall benefit of the state.

The specific mining sites affected by the enforcement action include Sequia Mining Industry and Eminent Quarry. According to Mr Oni, the decision to seal these sites was made after the Agency had previously requested consent letters, community development agreements, and other relevant documentation required to legitimize mining operations in the state.

Highlighting the state government’s dedication to partnering with stakeholders, Mr Oni reiterated the commitment of His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde to sanitize the Oyo State mining sector in accordance with the Mining Act and other relevant laws.

To underscore the seriousness of the matter, the DG emphasized that the Agency would not tolerate any form of illegality. He pointed out that the Governor had signed an Executive order empowering the agency to seal any mining industries failing to comply with the established rules and regulations governing the sector.

The coordinating Director of the Agency, Mrs Jolade Omidiran, urged miners and all relevant stakeholders to promptly submit their required documents. She emphasized the importance of compliance, noting that the enforcement team would be rigorously ensuring adherence to the regulations set forth by the government.

This decisive action by the Oyo State Mineral Development Agency reflects the government’s commitment to fostering a lawful and regulated mining environment, signaling a new era of accountability and order within the sector.
