IBADAN/Nigeria: The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has initiated operation “SAFE TRIP: WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE” as part of its Easter Special Patrol Schedule, aimed at enhancing traffic management and safety measures across the state.
In a statement released by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of OYRTMA, Maj. Adekoya Adesagba (Rtd), the primary objective of the operation is to ensure efficient traffic control, timely clearance of obstructions, and prompt emergency services round the clock. The operation also entails collaborative efforts with other safety and security agencies within the state.
Strategic routes including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Olodo-Monatan-Iwo Road Interchange, and various other key intersections will be covered by the operation, which commenced on Wednesday, 27th March 2024, and will run through Monday, 8th April 2024. OYRTMA will deploy its operational resources from all commands across the state to ensure effective implementation.
Officers will be stationed strategically along major roads and intersections to monitor and address any violations by motorists, with particular attention given to potential congestion, breakdowns, obstructions, and road traffic accidents anticipated during the Easter celebrations.
Motorists are strongly advised to exercise caution, avoid speeding, night travels, overloading, worn-out tires, and driving in prohibited directions. The Chairman emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations for the safety of all road users.
Commanders have been instructed to ensure that OYRTMA operatives and Mayors maintain a professional and firm demeanor while prioritizing public safety. Any vehicles found violating traffic laws during the operation will face penalties, including impoundment until the conclusion of the operation.
