Passing of Asagba of Asaba Mourned by Delta State Governor

ASABA/Nigeria: In a somber expression of condolence, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has conveyed his sorrow over the demise of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof. Joseph Chike Edozien, CFR.

The revered monarch, known for his distinguished career as a medical scholar and for being the first Black-African indigenous Dean of Medicine in a foreign land, passed away just months before his centenary birth anniversary.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori praised the Asagba’s 33-year reign, highlighting the purposeful leadership he provided to his people and the residents of Asaba, the state capital.

Under Edozien’s stewardship, Asaba experienced significant urbanization, marked by advancements in population growth, infrastructure, and socio-political development.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized the late monarch’s enduring contributions to fostering a welcoming and pleasant environment for all Nigerians in Asaba, hailing him as a “scholar per excellence, bridge-builder, and elder statesman.”

In his prayers, Governor Oborevwori beseeched divine intervention for the repose of the departed monarch’s soul and urged for strength to be granted to the royal family and the people of Asaba in coping with this profound loss.
