The choice of Pastor Umo Eno as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his subsequent election has been widely praised by party leaders, including a prominent national leader from the South-South geopolitical zone.

From the moment he took office, Governor Eno made swift and significant strides across various sectors. His previous experience in former Governor Udom Emmanuel’s cabinet equipped him with the expertise needed to effectively lead the state.

In the realm of infrastructure, Governor Eno’s administration has made substantial progress. Significant projects include the construction of roads and bridges, as well as enhancements to education and healthcare facilities. Within his first year, new schools like CSK Model Primary School and Govt Model Primary School in Uyo have been constructed, while the Mbiaso Bridge Model Primary School project is underway. Additionally, N2 billion in grants have been allocated to support indigent university graduates.

Economically, Governor Eno is spearheading initiatives to deepen Akwa Ibom’s financial stability. He has sought partnerships with the Federal Government to develop the Ibom Deep Seaport and an oil palm refinery. His administration also distributed N400 million in business grants to local entrepreneurs and provided N1.5 billion in interest-free loans to traders. To support the vulnerable, free food items were distributed at Itam Central Market.

Governor Eno’s commitment to improving state aviation is evident in his efforts to enhance Ibom Air, including adding new aircraft and pursuing projects at Victor Attah International Airport. His administration has also focused on agricultural advancements, partnering with companies for mechanized farming and integrated farm projects.

In housing, the state has collaborated with the Federal Housing Authority to provide affordable housing and has built 100 homes for the poorest residents. Infrastructure projects are numerous and impactful, including the construction of major roads and bridges, housing estates, and significant road rehabilitation efforts.

Governor Eno’s administration also prioritizes security, launching 14 gunboats in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy to bolster maritime security. Support for other security agencies includes monetary aid and equipment donations.

Environmental and power sector projects are also on the agenda, such as reclaiming the Uyo gully erosion site and addressing issues at the Ibom Power Plant to enhance its contribution to the state’s economic agenda.

Known as the “Street Governor,” Eno frequently engages with citizens, demonstrating his commitment to serving the people and fostering unity across political and tribal lines. His hands-on approach has earned widespread acclaim, suggesting that his first year of accomplishments is just the beginning of a transformative tenure for Akwa Ibom State.
