ASABA/Nigeria: The NigerIa Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Delta State Chapter, has called on parents and caregivers to pay more attention to the development of children under their care to build a healthier society.
The Association made the call in a statement signed by the Chairman, Comrade Pat Gbemudu and Secretary, Comrade Eunice Emeyazia, to mark the 2020 Children’s day celebration.
They attributed the increasing societal decadence to the negligence of parents and caregivers, especially the neglect of cultural, religious and moral values, in the pursuit of material gains.
Delta NAWOJ described children as the future assets of families, the state and nation, and stressed the need to put them first and pay more attention to their education, bearing in mind that the future prosperity of a Nation lied in its ability to develop the hidden potentials in her children.
They observed that children across the globe were beginning to demonstrate strength and leadership, hence the need to continually invest in, and empower them to right the wrongs in the society.
Children’s Day is celebrated annually in Nigeria on May 27, to raise awareness of and support children’s welfare across the world.
