PDP Governors Demand Urgent NEC Meeting to Resolve Party Crisis

ASABA/Nigeria: Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have intervened in the ongoing crisis within the party, calling on the National Working Committee (NWC) to convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) on March 13, 2025.

Rising from a meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum held at the Government House, Asaba, the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, reaffirmed the governors’ support for the recent Court of Appeal judgment concerning the party’s National Secretary position.

“The Forum noted with delight the ongoing efforts at resolving the crisis in the National Working Committee, NWC, on the position of the National Secretary, and has reaffirmed its support for the Court of Appeal judgment,” Mohammed stated.

He further urged the NWC to implement the court ruling effectively, adding that the forum had reviewed all necessary legal notifications required for a valid NEC meeting and advised that it be rescheduled for March 13, 2025.

Commending PDP governors for their commitment to policies that address citizens’ welfare and promote sustainable development, the Forum lauded their collective efforts in mitigating economic hardships across their states.

The governors also expressed appreciation to the nation’s Armed Forces and security agencies for their efforts in combating banditry and securing the country. However, they raised concerns over the growing influence of non-state actors and called for a strengthened national security framework.

The Forum extended gratitude to the host governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and the people of Delta State for their hospitality, acknowledging the administration’s strides in infrastructure, environmental remediation, economic empowerment, and security.

“The Forum enjoined Nigerians not to despair in the face of prevailing hardships, assuring that the PDP remains committed to restoring the country to its pre-2015 era of manageable costs of living, security of lives and property, and national unity,” the communique stated.

In his welcome address, Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed Delta State’s unwavering commitment to the PDP, highlighting the state’s consistent development under successive PDP administrations since 1999.

“Delta State has remained a PDP stronghold, and we have continued to make significant progress. Over the past 18 to 19 months, our administration has delivered extensively on infrastructure, human capital development, and security,” Oborevwori said.

He emphasized that the PDP’s governance model prioritizes citizens’ welfare, translating into substantial investments in infrastructure, education, and social services.
