OZORO/Nigeria: Political office holders and officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State have been called upon to extend acts of kindness to party members across the region. This appeal was made by the Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council, Godwin Ogorugba, during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the PDP secretariat in Ozoro, the council’s headquarters, on Friday.
Ogorugba, a former chairman of the Isoko North PDP, stressed the importance of fostering unity and inclusivity within the party, noting that small gestures of kindness can strengthen the party’s foundation. He urged elected officials, political appointees, and party leaders to recognise their positions as a privilege and to use their influence to support grassroots members.
“Many of our members require assistance, and by extending hands of kindness, we can help them feel a sense of belonging,” Ogorugba said. “This will not only create a more formidable party but also lay the groundwork for the re-election of our governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in 2027.”
Ogorugba also cautioned party leaders to be wary of rumour-mongers, urging them to verify information before acting on it. He criticised the spread of misinformation, encouraging leaders to confront false claims directly. “If someone brings any news to you about another leader, simply call the person involved to verify. This approach will significantly reduce the spread of rumours,” he advised.
He further assured the party of his commitment to ensuring that all councillors and political appointees in Isoko North contribute their dues regularly, to support the effective running of the party. He also pledged to facilitate regular meetings of the Isoko North PDP Elders’ Council when necessary.
Several prominent leaders spoke at the meeting, including Jonathan Ukodhiko, Member representing Isoko Federal Constituency; Bernard Odior, Member representing Isoko North in the State Assembly; Joseph Onojaeme, Commissioner for Health; and Emmanuel Egbabor, PDP State Organising Secretary. They all called for continued support for both the council chairman, Godwin Ogorugba, and the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
A motion for a vote of confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was moved by Daniel Tutumor, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, and seconded by Pascal Emeluaha, Leader of the Isoko North Legislative Arm. The motion was unanimously adopted by the stakeholders present.
Other notable attendees included Emmanuel Okoro, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly; Oviemuno Oghoore, former Commissioner for Transport; and Philip Adheke, former Council Chairman, among others. Councillors, supervisors, women leaders, and ward vice chairmen were also in attendance.
The meeting underscored the importance of unity, kindness, and transparency in strengthening the PDP in Isoko North as the party looks ahead to future electoral successes.
