PDP Spokesperson Urges NUJ Chairman to Extend Olive Branch in Victory

ASABA/Nigeria: Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, the Spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called upon the newly-elected Chairman of the Delta State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Churchill Oyowe, to maintain humility and show magnanimity in victory by reaching out to his fellow unionists and co-contestants who were unsuccessful in the recently concluded state election on October 18.

In a congratulatory message addressed to Comrade Oyowe and the members of the state’s new executive of NUJ, Oghenesivbe emphasized the importance of fostering strong collaboration, generating fresh ideas, and elevating professional standards to propel the union to greater heights within the state.

He commended the peaceful, transparent, and fair nature of the election, attributing the landslide victory of the Oyowe-led team to the clear preferences of practicing journalists and stakeholders in the state. He highlighted that the team had been meticulously selected and groomed for the tasks ahead.

As a Communication Strategist and Distinguished Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management (Dfcism), Oghenesivbe underscored the necessity for Comrade Oyowe and his team to consistently partner with the current government led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. He stressed the vital role of the press, often referred to as the fourth estate of the realm in the Constitution, in contributing to good governance by providing objective and nonpartisan coverage of government achievements, public opinions, policies, and programs, thereby serving as the watchdog of society.

Oghenesivbe, in his statement, said, “I wish to humbly join our indefatigable and excessively locally committed Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, to congratulate the brand new State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, and his team. Your victory came at a time when the union earnestly yearned for a consummate team player, new ideas, focused leadership, and robust partnership with the government in fostering a synergy that would help propagate and consistently articulate the M.O.R.E agenda of Governor Oborevwori’s administration.”

He continued, “I want to strongly believe that the new Delta NUJ, led by you, Comrade Oyowe, came prepared to make a difference, and in doing so, you must of necessity carry along your predecessors, reconcile all that must be reconciled, and together hit the ground running to fulfill all your electioneering campaign promises for the benefit of members of the union in the state.”

Oghenesivbe also noted the significant role of Governor Oborevwori’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Ksc, as a prominent unionist, emphasizing the harmonious relationship between the union and the government, especially in their constitutionally assigned responsibilities within the state.

He concluded his message by expressing his hope for a successful tenure for Comrade Oyowe and his team, stressing the importance of continued mutual support and cooperation among all stakeholders in Delta State as they work together to advance the state in this dispensation.
