PDP Suspends Chief Dan Orbih Following Controversial Actions Ahead of Edo State Governorship Election

ABUJA/Nigeria: The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened today for its 588th meeting, addressing critical issues surrounding the upcoming September 21, 2024 Governorship election in Edo State. A focal point of discussion was the conduct of Chief Dan Orbih, National Vice Chairman (South South), whose recent actions sparked controversy within the party ranks.

In a unanimous decision, the NWC strongly condemned Chief Dan Orbih’s conduct, citing it as contradictory to the principles enshrined in the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017) and the responsibilities of his office as a national officer. The committee expressed dismay over Orbih’s purported interference in the Edo State Governorship Primary Election process, which it deemed unacceptable.

As a result of these findings, the NWC has instituted a six-member committee chaired by Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, Deputy National Chairman (South), to thoroughly investigate the matter in accordance with the party’s constitutional provisions. Pending the conclusion of this investigation, Chief Dan Orbih has been suspended from all NWC meetings, activities, and programs.

Acknowledging the overwhelming support from the people of Edo State for the PDP and its gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the NWC affirmed its commitment to ensuring the aspirations of Edo State residents align with the party’s vision for continued development in the state.

In a statement signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, the NWC called upon all party leaders, stakeholders, and members in Edo State to maintain unity, focus, and diligence in working towards securing victory in the forthcoming election.

This development underscores the PDP’s resolve to uphold internal discipline and maintain electoral integrity as preparations intensify for the Edo State Governorship election.
