“Peace and Unity: The Key to Nigerian Development,” says Comrade Mulade Sheriff

KANO/Nigeria: Comrade Mulade Sheriff, the convener of Nigeria for Peace Project, has highlighted the lack of peace and unity as major obstacles to Nigerian development. Speaking during his peace and unity advocacy visit to prominent figures in Kano State, Comrade Mulade, who also serves as the National Coordinator/CEO of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), emphasized the urgent need for reconciliation and unity in the country. He stressed the importance of promoting equity and justice, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations.

During his visit to Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a political stalwart, member of the NNPP, and former Governor of Kano State, the peace ambassador underscored the significance of unity and peace and their crucial role in achieving national development. Comrade Mulade revealed that the CEPEJ Kano office is coordinating the Peace Project and introduced Alhaji Ibrahim Waiya as the co-convener of the initiative. He explained that the Nigeria for Peace (N4P) project was conceived by civil society organizations and patriotic individuals from across the country, all dedicated to preserving the nation’s unity.

“The unity of Nigeria has consistently been undermined by individuals who exploit religious, ethnic, and regional sentiments during political campaigns,” Chief Mulade Sheriff warned. He stressed that this situation contradicts the collective determination to be a united and peaceful nation. Consequently, non-state actors and patriotic Nigerians who have been working towards national unity and peace have come together to champion the N4P project. Their collaborative efforts aim to complement existing initiatives and ensure the restoration and sustainability of national unity, cohesion, peaceful coexistence, and ultimately, sustainable national development.

Responding to the delegation, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State, and presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 general elections, commended the group for their initiative. He acknowledged the desperate need for peace and complete restoration in Nigeria and expressed his commitment to being part of the peace-building process in the country. “As a peace-loving person, I want to assure you that we will contribute to the peace-building process in our quest for long-awaited development,” he affirmed.

Expressing gratitude to the delegation, Alhaji Kwankwaso encouraged the group to sustain their movement to address the challenges faced by Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of overcoming ethnic, cultural, and religious diversities, working together to expedite the development of the nation.

The visit by Comrade Mulade Sheriff and his team to Kano State shed light on the pressing need for peace and unity as fundamental prerequisites for Nigeria’s progress. With the Nigeria for Peace Project gaining momentum, it is hoped that concerted efforts by civil society organizations and individuals will help foster a united and peaceful nation, paving the way for sustainable development.
