People with Disability in Delta state have been asked to corporate with the government in its development agenda.
The Executive Director, Social Services in the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, (DESOPADEC), Hon Ochor Chris Ochor made the call when EXCO members of the Oil and Gas Mandate Areas of the Joint National Association of People with Disability, (JONAPD), paid the commission board members a courtesy call on Thursday October, 29 2015.
Hon Ochor who received the members on behalf of the board and management of the commission told the members that the present government of Dr Ifeanyi Okowa requires the corporation of all Deltans, including the people with disability to succeed especially in the area of peace.
According to the Executive Director, members of JONAPD should ensure that their members are not engaged in causing disharmony and violence in the state, as such activities will not lead to development, but rather if not well handled will create, breakdown in law and order.
In his word “The commission will continue to partner with you, but you have to do things that will bring peace in the state, and not things that will create breakdown in Law and Order”. He said.
Continuing, Hon Ochor called on the members to help the government to reduce the cost of welfare services to the group in the state, by involving in the creation of wealth among members. He said if this is done, it will help the government to rechannel some of the funds used for the welfare of the members to other vital areas of the economy.
He however concluded that the government will continue to assist the members of the group through the commission, but they should not over expect such assistance as the revenue to the government is dwindling because of drop in oil revenue.
Reacting on behalf of the group, Com. Ernest Igbuzor, the co-ordinator of the oil and gas mandate areas, while thanking the government for the SMART agenda program, congratulated the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on his recent victory at the tribunal, and pledged their continued support to the government by ensuring that there is peace in the state.
