ABUJA/Nigeria: The leadership of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) paid a courtesy visit to Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, the Senator representing Delta North and Acting Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, at his Maitama residence on Friday.
Led by PFAN President Tijani Babangida, MON, the delegation sought Senator Nwoko’s support in advancing the association’s goals, particularly in enhancing the welfare of active football players and providing sustained support for retired professionals.
Senator Nwoko expressed his pleasure at hosting the PFAN executives and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sports development in Nigeria. He pledged to work closely with PFAN to achieve their objectives, highlighting the critical importance of player welfare and the broader growth of football as a unifying force in the nation.
The PFAN leadership also proposed a partnership with Senator Nwoko’s Sports University, located in Idumuje-Ugboko, Delta State. The university, the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa, aims to nurture young football talents while offering robust educational opportunities for sports professionals.
Speaking during the visit, PFAN President Tijani Babangida emphasized the need for collaboration to strengthen support structures for Nigerian footballers. He reiterated PFAN’s commitment to working with Senator Nwoko and other stakeholders to create a thriving ecosystem for sports development in the country.
The PFAN delegation included other prominent officials such as Clement Temile, 1st Vice President; Edema Fuludu, MON, General Secretary; Magaji Boss, PFAN Commissioner for the North West; Mustapha Mubdiyu, FCT Caretaker Committee Chairman; and Mrs. Rotimi Michael, FCT Caretaker Committee 1st Vice Chairman.
The visit underscored the shared vision of PFAN and Senator Nwoko to advance Nigerian football and enhance opportunities for players both on and off the field.
