The Managing Director SEPLAT Petroleum Development Company Mr Austin Avuru, has advocated for the use of Community surveillance so as to hold the Community leaders responsible if there is an attack on the oil facilities.
The SEPLAT boss who made the suggestion in Effurun during the one-day Stakeholders summit on vandalization of oil and gas facilities and installations, also disclosed that the activities of vandals in their area of operations, have been brought to the minimal because of Community surveillance.
Urging that the Government has to create an enabling environment to attract investment.
The Governor of Delta state Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, during the event in Effurun has earlier restate the commitment of his administration in the empowerment and training of youths, but that the communities have to corporate in achieving it. By creating a relationship with the government so that “we can gather intelligent to work with.”
On the suggestions by some stakeholders during the event, for the government to recognize and empower some of the illegal refineries following the damages caused by the destruction of their product on the environment, the Army representative at the event also kicked against the suggestion, noting that what they were producing was below the requires standards. Assuring that there were synergy between all the armed forces to bring the criminals to book.
