ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has thwarted a suspected armed robbery operation in Agbor, arresting one suspect and recovering arms and other incriminating items in a swift, intelligence-led response.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Asaba, said the operation followed a distress call from residents and the prompt intervention of police operatives.
The incident occurred in the early hours of April 4, 2026, following a distress call from a resident of Full Current Compound in Alihame, Agbor, reporting that about eight armed men were attempting to break into the premises.
Acting promptly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Agbor Division, mobilised and deployed the Anti-Crime Patrol team to the scene.
On arrival, operatives discovered that one of the suspects, identified as Emeka Ernest, 41, from Ukpo in Anambra State, had already been subdued by residents during a struggle.
The suspect, who sustained injuries in the process, was taken into police custody and rushed to the General Hospital, Agbor, where he is currently receiving treatment.
A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of a live cartridge from the suspect, while two expended cartridges, a battle axe, a red cloth suspected to have been used as a face mask, and a mobile phone were also recovered.
In a follow-up operation on April 6, based on the suspect’s confession, police operatives recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel short gun concealed near the scene in Alihame.
Police authorities said investigation is ongoing, with efforts intensified to track down and arrest other members of the gang who are currently at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the prompt response of the DPO and his team, as well as the vigilance of residents who played a crucial role in subduing the suspect.
He assured the public of the command’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the police.
The command reaffirmed its resolve to sustain intelligence-driven policing and community partnership in tackling crime across the state.
