Police In Delta Shoots Down Suspected Armed Robber In Warri

WARRI/Nigeria: An armed robber has been shot dead in a gun battle with the Police in Warri, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that the battle ready policemen were in a hot chase of the men of the underworld in the hot afternoon of the fateful day from the Ajamogha area of Warri.

The armed robbers who were in a lightning speed drove through the Esisi Road, towards Warri / Sapele Road.

It was further gathered that during the chase, there was an exchange of gunshots between the policemen and the dare devil robbers and that residents ran for their dear lives.

However, due to the superiority of the policemen, the driver of the car conveying the armed robbers was hit by bullets and died at the Esisi Bridge, close to the PDP Warri South Secretariat and INEC while other members of the robbery gang were said to have escaped with bullet wounds.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Delta State Police Command, Asaba, DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident.

In a related development, a three member gang of commercial tricycle ( keke) robbers also known as Awala boys narrowly escaped death in the hands of local vigilante men in the Iyara Junction / Urhobo Road area of the locality.

A resident of the area narrated that the Awala boys were returning from a mission from the Merogun axis of Iyara when they were accosted by the gallant local vigilante men.

The source narrated further that the hoodlums narrowly escaped the attack through the Stadium Road to the McIver Market area.

He complained bitterly that the Awala boys had been terrorising the Iyara Junction/ Cemetery Road in recent times.

The source stated that crime wave would be drastically reduced, if there was a constant raid of hard drugs market (joints) in the area.
