ASABA/Nigeria: The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, on Friday undertook an on-the-spot assessment of security deployments at designated Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), reaffirming the Command’s commitment to a safe and orderly exercise across the state.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the visit—carried out in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police—forms part of a proactive visibility policing strategy aimed at ensuring a secure and hitch-free environment for candidates, officials, and other stakeholders participating in the nationwide examination.
During the tour of selected centres, CP Oyeniyi inspected security arrangements on ground, interacted with officers on duty, and stressed the need for professionalism, vigilance, and courteous engagement with members of the public. He charged deployed personnel to remain alert and maintain high standards of conduct throughout the examination period.
The Commissioner also commended officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for the smooth conduct of the exercise, assuring them of the Command’s readiness to provide any additional security support where necessary. He urged the officials not to hesitate in reaching out to the police in the event of any challenges.
According to him, officers deployed to the various CBT centres are primarily to guarantee the safety of candidates and examination officials, noting that the Command places a premium on the protection of lives and property.
CP Oyeniyi expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance with earlier directives on adequate security deployment, while reiterating that Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers must sustain effective supervision to ensure that the exercise remains incident-free.
