ABUJA/Nigeria: The Nigeria Police Force has moved to enforce disciplinary action over the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, announcing the dismissal of officers found culpable and their impending prosecution.

The development was confirmed in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon, Placid, who disclosed that the decision followed the conclusion of an expedited internal review into the April 26, 2026 incident.

According to the statement, all officers linked to the case were earlier withdrawn from the Delta State Command on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and redeployed to Force Headquarters, Abuja, where they faced disciplinary proceedings.

Findings by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) established that the principal officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, acted in clear violation of Force Order 237 and other regulations guiding the use of firearms, describing his conduct as unlawful and unprofessional.

The committee subsequently recommended the immediate dismissal of the officer and others found complicit, a recommendation that has been approved by the Inspector-General of Police and forwarded to the Police Service Commission for ratification.

Police authorities said that upon completion of administrative processes, the affected officers would be handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution.

Reaffirming its position, the police leadership stressed that the force maintains a zero-tolerance stance on extrajudicial actions, noting that no officer has the right to take life outside the provisions of the law.

The Inspector-General also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, assuring that the incident would be treated with the seriousness it deserves and that justice would be pursued in a manner that restores public confidence.

The force further appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, reiterating its commitment to professionalism, accountability and the protection of citizens’ rights.
