ASABA/Nigeria:The Delta State Police Command has intensified its offensive against criminal activities in Asaba and its environs, arresting 202 suspects during a coordinated raid on suspected criminal hideouts, brothels and locations believed to be centres for illicit drug activities.

The operation was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who said the intelligence-led exercise was conducted on Saturday, July 4, following credible information gathered by the State Intelligence Department (SID) on locations allegedly being used for criminal activities within the Asaba metropolis.

According to the police, the operation was coordinated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations as part of the Command’s renewed efforts to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen security across the state.

The police said 202 suspects, made up of 102 men and 100 women, were taken into custody during the raid over alleged offences ranging from operating illegal brothels to the possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, as well as other related criminal activities.

In addition to the arrests, security operatives impounded five vehicles, 10 tricycles and 10 motorcycles for alleged violations of traffic regulations, the Delta State Government’s restrictions on tricycle operations and the ban on motorcycle activities in designated areas.

Commenting on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, described the raid as part of the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and proactive crime prevention.

He said the police would continue to identify and dismantle criminal hideouts across Delta State while denying criminals the opportunity to operate freely.

The Commissioner assured residents that the Command would sustain similar operations aimed at protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist in preventing crime.

He also reaffirmed the Command’s determination to strengthen public safety through sustained surveillance, strategic patrols and intelligence-led operations across the state.

The latest crackdown is one of several recent operations undertaken by the Delta State Police Command as it intensifies efforts to combat cultism, drug-related offences and other forms of organised crime across the state.
