WARRI/Nigeria: The Delta State police command says it has rescued six passengers kidnapped along Warri-Sapele road by armed men.
A statement by the Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright says the rescue mission was made possible due to the combined efforts of the police and army personnel, making the kidnappers to abandon the victims in the bush.
It explains that the driver of the Toyota bus conveying the passengers was fatally shot, while a wounded victim died at the hospital after the rescue operation.
The police stated expended shells of 39 millimeter ammunition were recovered from the scene and a manhunt for the arrest of the suspects is ongoing.
The statement also notes the police saved one Chief Voke Oshasha from assassin’s in Ughelli area of the state following a distress call, saying the hoodlums abandoned the mission upon sighting police vehicle, although the victim sustained injuries and is receiving medical attention.
It adds the police also raided a cult hideout in Orogun in Ughelli North and arrested some cultists who are being investigated.
DSP Edafer Bright restated the commitment of Delta State police Commissioner CP Ari Mohammed-Ali, to rid the state of criminality, while calling on the citizenry to support the police by way of information sharing.
