ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command on Monday commenced activities to mark the 2026 National Police Week with a statewide sanitation exercise and free medical outreach, reinforcing its commitment to community service and public health.
The initiative was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who said the programme forms part of activities lined up to deepen police-community relations and promote environmental cleanliness across Delta State.
The clean-up exercise was carried out simultaneously across all nine Area Commands in the state, with officers and men actively engaged in clearing drainages, markets, and public spaces within their respective jurisdictions.
The exercise, according to the Command, reflects its resolve to foster a healthier environment while strengthening engagement with communities at the grassroots level.
In addition, the Command conducted a medical outreach at designated centres, including the Police Headquarters, where residents benefited from free health services such as medical consultations, basic health checks, and distribution of essential medications.
Leading the exercise, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, alongside members of the command management team, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical commanders, participated in the sanitation exercise at Anioma Market.
Speaking during the exercise, the CP said the activities align with the theme of this year’s Police Week, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” noting that modern policing goes beyond enforcement of laws to include active community engagement and service.
He urged residents to imbibe a culture of cleanliness in their homes and surroundings, stressing that maintaining a clean environment is critical to healthy living.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that promote public health, strengthen trust between the police and the public, and enhance safety and well-being across the state.
