UGHELL/Nigeria: The member representing the Ughelli/Udu federal Constituency, and Vice Chairman, Committee on Power, in the National Assembly, Rev Francis Waive, had stated that people of Ughelli, Udu, Uvwie, and Warri in Delta State will soon witness improvement in light supply, as efforts had been made to support the Ughelli Power Plant with additional power supply from the Onitsha Power Grid.
The Federal Legislator Made this known to select Journalists over the weekend in his constituency office in Ughelli, in a meeting he organized to appreciate the media on their supports, throughout his preparation and eventual victory at the polls and election tribunals.
He stated that all efforts are been made to ensure that Nigerians enjoy regular power supply, especially with improvement in the area of transmission and distribution as there is enough power production in the country, but only suffers due to poor transmission and distribution networks as a result of outdated facilities.
Rev. Waive pointed out that one of the numerous ways the power supply in these areas is to be solved is to connect to alternative national Grid from Onitsha to assist that of Ughelli. He pointed out that efforts are at advanced stage on this, while at same time plans to increase the heights of the base of the transformers at the Ughelli Power Station to solve the problems of the annual shutdown of the entire system during the peak of the rainy season as a result of flooding of the power company premises.
Apart from the efforts to get extra power supply to the area, the legislature stated that the Breaker at the Effurun Power Station, that cut down the power supply and affected many consumers will soon be replaced.
He further stated that the main problem that the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, is facing in meeting the needs of its numerous consumers is emanating from transmission of the required power to the company, which is gradually being resolved, with understanding from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN. He said that the House Committee on Power is doing everything possible to solve the problems with the TCN, so that BEDC will not have excuses of not performing.
While appealing to Nigerians to be patient, he said all efforts to improve on the power supply is key agenda of the President Mohammadu Buhari government, as the efforts to eliminate every obstacles that had been affecting the consumers, which includes the issues of estimated billing system, and lack of the prepaid meters.
