ABUJA/Nigeria: In a significant move aimed at enhancing access to higher education in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the immediate establishment of seven new federal tertiary institutions. Among the notable additions are the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale, Delta State, and the Federal University of Agriculture in Mubi, Adamawa State.
Additionally, the President announced the conversion of two colleges of education into federal universities of education, while also unveiling plans to establish three fresh colleges of education across the nation. This announcement was conveyed through a statement released by the Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Obilor-Duru Augustina Okechi.
As per the statement, President Tinubu’s approval includes the conversion of Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo, Ondo State, and Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education in Owerri, Imo State into Federal Universities of Education.
Furthermore, the President designated three new Colleges of Education. These institutions, Federal College of Education in Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti State; Federal College of Education in Ididep, Ibiono, Akwa Ibom State; and Federal College of Education (Technical) in Yauri, Kebbi State, are poised to play a crucial role in the nation’s educational landscape.
The statement highlights that President Tinubu’s decision aligns with the current administration’s dedication to ensuring governance continuity and policy consistency. It also underscores his commitment to the “Education for the Renewed Hope Agenda,” which seeks to enhance access to tertiary education throughout Nigeria.
