ASABA/Nigeria: In a significant development, the 8th Delta State House Assembly has announced the appointment of its principal officers. Hon Emeka Nwaobi, the representative of Aniocha North Constituency, has been appointed as the Majority Leader, while Hon Edafe Emakpor, the member representing Uvwie Constituency, has been designated as the Minority Leader.
These nominations were conveyed through separate letters submitted to the House by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Party (APC) respectively. The Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, disclosed the contents of the letters during the first session of the 8th Assembly.
According to the PDP’s letter, Hon Perkins Umukoro, the representative of Sapele Constituency, has been appointed as the Chief Whip. Other appointments include Festus Okoh from Ika South as the Deputy Majority Leader, Fred Martins from Warri North as the Deputy Chief Whip, Bernard Odior from Isoko North as the Majority Whip, and Prince Emeka Samuta from Ndokwa East as the Deputy Majority Whip. On the other hand, the APC’s letter named Anthony Alapala, the member representing Burutu One Constituency, as the Minority Whip.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, congratulated the Majority Leader and the rest of the principal officers for being recognized by their respective political parties. In response, Hon Emeka Nwaobi expressed his gratitude to God for his appointment as the Majority Leader and extended his appreciation to the PDP, the constituents of Aniocha North, and other individuals who contributed to his re-election to the state legislature. He called for the support of fellow members, emphasizing the House’s commitment to maintaining its prominent position in legislative affairs among the State Houses of Assembly in the country. Furthermore, he pledged unwavering loyalty to the Speaker, the party leader in the state, Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, and other relevant figures.
The Minority Leader, Hon Edafe Emakpor, echoed similar sentiments and expressed his gratitude to the APC for nominating him for the position.
With the emergence of these principal officers, the 8th Delta State House Assembly is poised to begin its legislative work, aiming to serve the interests of the people and contribute to the development of the state.
