Sapele Correctional Centre, With the Fire Engine Parked Outside
SAPELE/Nigeria: The management of the Sapele Correctional Centre in Delta State had reported that inmates of the centre had set part of the facility on fire with attempts to escape from the facility.
According to ADVOCATE the incident which happened earlier today was today foiled by a combined team of men of the Nigeria Prison Service, Police and DSS.
It was gathered that the inmates were protesting against the lack of food and water and poor treatment by the officials of the centre.
The Fire Service according to reports responded to the distress calls in an attempt to put of the fire.
Despite the raging fire at the facility, reports says that the inmates are still protesting against the officers of the centre, while security men have surrounded the facility to check possible escape of the inmates in what has been described as a botched coup.
It can be recalled that the state government had recently pardoned some prisoners because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
