ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly has set Tuesday, February 18, 2025, for a public hearing on a bill seeking to establish the Delta State Food Security Agency. The proposed legislation aims to strengthen food security policies and related matters in the state.
The public hearing, organized by the Joint House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Special Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Press Center, Assembly Complex, Okpanam Road, Asaba.
A statement issued by the Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Perkins Umukoro, invited written and oral submissions from key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Lands and Survey, the Directorate of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Delta State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), civil society organizations, and representatives from both the public and private sectors.
The statement urged interested individuals and organizations to submit written contributions to the Clerk of the House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources at the State Assembly Complex for proper documentation. Memoranda must be submitted in 20 copies, enclosed in a sealed envelope, and addressed to the Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, with the subject marked “Delta State Food Security Agency Bill.” The deadline for submission is Monday, February 17, 2025.
The Delta State Food Security Agency Establishment Bill was referred to the Joint Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Special Committee on Nutrition and Food Security for further legislative review following its second reading on February 5, 2025.
