AGBOR/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has called on Deltans to pursue peace and security without which there cannot be meaningful development.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa made the call recently at a Peace Advocacy Workshop
for Ika Federal Constituency, with the theme, PEACE FOR ALL: MORE GAINS, ZERO PAINS” organised by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, held at Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area.
The governor who stated that his administration places premium on peace and security, said his government have established various peace platforms and empowerment programs in the state.
According to Governor Okowa who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon Festus Ovie Agas, when his government came in, its established Peace Building Council, headed by Prof. Oyovbaire and made up of notable Deltans who have Excell in academia, industry and in politics who from time to time meet and deliberate on issues of peace which is escalated to the government.
He also said that his administration established the Office of Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, the Traditional Rulers Council who also deliberate on issue of peace in the state because of the premium the government place on peace and security without which there cannot be meaningful development, saying that this has made the state relatively very peaceful compare to other states.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, the Chief Strategist to the Governor, Dr Festus Okubor stated that without peace, the world would be impaired, saying that God sent Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace to the world for the purpose of peace.
Dr Okubor stated that the workshop was to deepen what has been dear to the heart of Governor Okowa’s administration, saying that since the inception of democracy, Delta State under the watch of Governor Okowa have experienced more peace.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor JP, appreciated Governor Okowa for maintaining and sustaining a peaceful disposition in ensuring that Delta State remain peaceful and investment friendly.
Present at the workshop are top government functionaries, royal fathers, the Queen, Grace Ikenchukwu of Agbor Kingdom, youth leaders, president generals of various communities in Ika Federal Constituency who appreciated the governor for enthroning peace in Delta State.
