KOKO/Nigeria: The Association of Physically Challenged Persons in Warri North Local Government Area, has solicited for assistance from the present administration of the council, for its members.

The Vice Chairman of the association, Mr Kenneth Jemirigbe, while speaking to our correspondent in Koko, on behalf of the association, lamented the neglect of its members by the present administration of the council, which he noted, had led to the pitiable state of most of its members.

“The way they treat our members presently is not good at, all, if not for the help of Honourable Benson Asin, who built my shoe shop for me when he was chairman of the council, I would not have been able to survive”

“Most of our members became very sick during the early period of the COVID-19 pandemic because of lack of assistance from the council, and some have died too”

“I am cripple, I can barely move about without the aid of a motorcycle. As  it is now I am presently soliciting for the sum of 500,000( five hundred thousand naira) to buy a new motorcycle, because the old one that helps me move around for my business is faulty,” he said.

He maintained that the association had several times called on the attention of the council, and other well-meaning individuals in the area of provision of motorcycles for mobility of its members, and stipends for empowerment, but to no avail.

Jemirigbe, who said that the association would keep on soliciting for assistance, urged the council chairman, Honourable Smart Asekutu to make policies that would benefit the physically challenged in the area.
