Resident Doctors Extend Strike Ultimatum to DSTG, DELSUTH, Make Demands

ASABA/Nigeria: The Association of Resident Doctors Delta State University Teaching Hospital, has announced the extension of a strike ultimatum to the State government and management of Delta State University Teaching Hospital by four weeks.

This was part of resolutions reached after a General Emergency Meeting at the State Teaching Hospital in Oghara, which was signed by the President Dr. Odukuye Rukevwe and the General Secretary Dr. Adja Harrison.

The statement noted the suspension of the planned industrial action will elapse on August 2, after which a seven day warning strike will commence if their demands were not met.

They listed the demands to include the immediate payment of the 2021 Medical Residency Training Fund to resident doctors in Delta State Teaching Hospital, within the period of the extended ultimatum to continue the training of specialist doctors in Delta State.

The association also called on the DELSUTH management to pay a reasonable percentage of the backlog of bench fees and to maintain same with a monthly payment of one million naira for the purpose.

The congress pressed for facilities to be adequately equipped in preparation for training, while also urging the management to make improvements on the state of the call food to resident doctors.

They however lauded the State Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for the release of sixty eight million naira to the Teaching Hospital, and commended the government for efforts at addressing some of the issues demanding urgent attention.
