Residents Embark on Road Construction in Asaba

The residents of Otuogwu community in the hinter land of the capital city of Delta state Asaba has embarked on road construction of the Otuogwu street from NECAB junction off Nnebisi road down to the river Niger, a street of about 120km where dredgers are sucking sand out of the river, the community leader Ogbueshi Love Nwokobia disclosed this to newsmen who visited the site thinking that the state government has embarked on road project. The press on arrival at the site observed that the project is been handled by the poor masses who deem it right not to wait for government in the development of their environment.
Ogbueshi Love Nwokobia, a onetime councilor aspirant under the platform of Accord party, noted that the street have long been neglected by the government not minding the economic importance access road could raise for the state, adding that the local governments collects revenue from the dredgers without utilizing the fund collected as regards road construction for optimal operation, and the residents who are mainly farmers find it difficult to carry their by-products to the market.20150702_142341
According to the community leader, when it rains, children and the elderly finds it difficult to go about their business because flood from Nnebisi non-functional drainage and other percolation from people’s houses flows down the street to the river with a pressure capable of carrying someone to the river Niger, and said many residents have lost their children through this flood.
He opined that they will no longer wait for the state government for the rehabilitation and construction of drainage which he described as simple, adding that the road will bring maximum development to the area and also encourage tourism for the end of the street has a large expanse of land to boost the income of the state.
