OKPAI/Nigeria: Residents of Onuaboh, Okpai, and other communities in Ndokwa East have expressed their outrage over the lack of government response to the recent devastating floods that have wreaked havoc in the region.
Many locals have voiced their disappointment at the absence of Internal Displaced Person (IDP) camps, which had previously provided shelter during such emergencies, leaving them feeling abandoned in their time of need.
Community members have reported significant losses, both in personal investments and agricultural output, as they grapple with the aftermath of the flooding.
Speaking to our correspondent, local businesswoman and farmer Madam Josephine Oji lamented the destruction of her livelihood, stating that her hard-earned investments have been swept away.
“I borrowed money from Zenith Bank to invest in my farm, but now I am left with nothing. The flood has ruined everything, and I find myself facing bankruptcy,” she said, highlighting the dire situation many residents face without adequate shelter or support.
The situation is particularly alarming, as prior to this crisis, IDP camps were established in government-owned schools to assist flood victims. However, it remains uncertain whether these camps are still operational, adding to the community’s frustration and vulnerability. Residents are now forced to find makeshift accommodations without any government assistance or guidance.
The Situation in Ndokwa East, needs an urgent attention fromthe Stakeholders, including the all tiers of government and the agencies.
