Residents, Okada Riders Condemn Ticket Boys Action in Ughelli

UGHELLI/Nigeria: Residents of Ughelli, market women and Okada Riders have condemned the action of ‘Ticket Boys’ whom they said have become nuisance to the society because of the wanton destruction and injuries they have caused people in recent times.

Citing what happened on Sunday, August 19, 2018,  as a case in point, a market woman who did not disclose her identity said that an Okada went aflame at Ughelli market around Adagharagba junction due to activities of the tickets boys and many stores were affected by the flames where goods worth thousands of naira were destroyed.

According to her, the said ticket boys jumped into the road unnoticed by the Okada rider, and the Okada rider, in an attempt to avoid running into the ticket boys, skidded off the road, lost balance and fell, adding that the Okada was gutted by fire which also affected the nearby stores.

She said that the timely intervention of market women saved the situation from getting out of control, stating that the ticket boys, when they saw the situation took to their heels.

Some Okada riders and market women who also spoke to our correspondent, condemned the action of the ticket boys, saying that it was unbecoming of them as they have caused so many accidents to passengers and riders.

They appealed to both the state and local governments and those who employed them to call them to order, suggesting also that proper training should be organized for them.
