OGHARA/Nigeria: Some concerned individuals in Oghara, the headquarters of Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State has decided to notify the state government and the public of the dangers inherent in the lives of those building and living under the power lines along the Ogini, kpateghe Road of Ogharefe in the locality.
Some residents in the area said seeing people building houses and living comfortably under a high tension wire voltage was alarming and dangerous; hence, the notification to the government to take necessary actions that would save lives.
While advising whosoever that was involved in selling of land under high tension to desist from such act, a concerned group said that that the act would wreak havoc in the area.
Reacting to this, the Unugbrogodo of Ogharefe who is the head of the Ogudion, Chief Stephen Igbivwie, said the community had no right to sell any land under the power lines, saying the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) was the rightful owners of that area.
The Unugbrogodo said the community had no hand in the salea of the lands under the high tension, adding that anyone acquiring land and building under that high voltage was doing so at his or her own risk.
He urged the state government to take action for the safety of the community and the people living under the power lines.
While advising the Oghara people to stop purchasing and building houses under the high tension wire voltage, Chief Stephen advised the state government to demolish all buildings under the high power tension and evacuate all those living under it for their safety.
Also speaking concerning the issue was Chief Richard Abijor who lamented that it was risky to build in such dangerous zone as a place to be called a home.
