Respect the Rule of Law—South-East PDP Tells BoT, Governors on Anyanwu’s Position

OWERRI/Nigeria: In a strong show of solidarity, stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-East have cautioned members of the opposition party in other geopolitical zones against allowing emotions to cloud their judgment in the ongoing leadership tussle involving the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The leaders, in a statement issued in Owerri on Thursday, warned against reckless comments that could further destabilize the party. They insisted that Anyanwu remains the substantive National Secretary, citing a stay of execution order.

“The stay of execution has said it all. There is only one National Secretary, and it remains Senator Samuel Anyanwu,” the statement read.

Chairman of the South-East PDP Stakeholders Forum, Chief Maxwell Okoye, attributed the internal wrangling to political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections. He commended PDP governors for their developmental strides and urged them, along with the Board of Trustees (BoT), to safeguard the integrity of the party’s leadership.

“The battle for the control of the PDP ahead of 2027 has created confusion and uncharitable impressions, with insinuations that those fighting Anyanwu are agents of the ruling party,” the leaders warned.

They also decried the alleged harassment and intimidation of Anyanwu by certain political godfathers, stressing the need to uphold the rule of law and maintain party unity.
