Revitalizing Oyo State’s Water Sector: Government Seeks Grant from WaterAid International

IBADAN/Nigeria: In a bid to address the challenges facing Oyo State’s water sector, the government is actively pursuing a special grant from the renowned non-governmental organization WaterAid International. The initiative aims to breathe new life into the state’s ailing water infrastructure, providing residents with improved access to clean and potable water.

The Executive Chairman of Oyo State Water Corporation, Hon. Elias Adeojo, made this announcement during a courtesy visit to the management of Nigerian Breweries Ltd. in Ibadan. He highlighted the corporation’s intention to collaborate with WaterAid Nigeria, emphasizing the potential positive impact on the state’s water supply.

“Our partnership with WaterAid Nigeria is geared towards ensuring that the residents of Oyo State have access to a reliable and safe water supply,” said Adeojo. He further explained that the grant, once secured, would be directed towards communities grappling with water scarcity, insufficient sanitation facilities, and the promotion of sustainable hygiene practices.

Adeojo underscored the government’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens, stating that this dedication positions them to potentially access a 100 Thousand Euros grant from WaterAid International. The grant specifically focuses on water sanitation, hygiene, and the extension of water pipelines, targeting projects in various African countries.

Commenting on the collaboration, Adeojo stated, “As a response to the government’s call to action for support to its water sector, WaterAid Nigeria, in collaboration with our corporation, is championing the cause of potable water in our dear state.” He assured that the grant would be used judiciously for its intended purpose.

Emphasizing the social responsibility of the government in providing water services, Adeojo appealed to the management of Nigerian Breweries for assistance in securing the grant. He acknowledged the extensive nature of water provision as an investment with minimal financial returns but stressed its critical importance.

In response, the Brewery Manager, Mr. Seun Akinwale, commended the leadership qualities of the Governor of the State, Engr. Seyi Makinde. Akinwale pledged ongoing collaboration with the Corporation to ensure the provision of adequate water to the inhabitants of Oyo State.
