JESSE/Nigeria: Fear gripped Jesse Town in Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta State, after armed men abducted Mr. Francis Amakare, the in-law of Prince Joseph Orhomonokpaye, Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Community Newspapers.
Amakare was reportedly seized late Friday night, September 26, while returning home. Within hours, the abductors contacted the family, demanding a ransom of ₦10 million and warning of grave consequences should security agencies intervene.
The Sapele–Jesse axis has over the years been identified as a major security risk in Delta State, with reports of ritual killings and illegal adoptions frequently emerging from the area. Investigations indicate that many of these criminal acts are perpetrated by gangs who use tricycles, or keke, to carry out abductions, exploiting the mobility and anonymity the vehicles provide.
Local vigilante teams and security operatives have launched a frantic manhunt, even as the Delta State Police Command has yet to release an official statement. Prince Orhomonokpaye, visibly shaken, is coordinating closely with community leaders and security officials to secure his relative’s safe release.
The incident has amplified concerns over the rising wave of kidnappings across Delta State, with residents urging government and law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to prevent further escalation. Negotiations with the abductors were ongoing at press time, and Mr. Amakare’s whereabouts remain unknown.
