SAPELE/Nigeria: It was a sad day for some residents of Okpe Road and Crudas Road in Sapele as gang of armed robbers went on rampage on Thursday, January 18, 2018.
Report has it that the robbers first stormed a “Tecno” Shop at Okpe Road just after Major Bowen Junction as one move towards Akintola Road Junction.
They were said to have succeeded in carting away mobile phones and in the process a security man at the Tecno Shop was killed.
It was learnt that the operation lasted for almost two hours, even the interference from local Vigilante and the Police could not deter the dare devil robbers.
According to reports, the robbers left there and went to Crudas road, where they met the Councillor representing ward Two in Sapele Local Government Council. Hon. Monday Iodugun, who was said to have come out in early morning the fateful day at about 4.00am to ease himself when the robbers accosted him,.
Unknown to him, according to report, he thought they were Vigilante and asked where they came from but he narrowly escaped being shot when the robbers learnt that he was a Councillor.
One resident in the area, simply identified as Sunny, was however not lucky as he was said to have accosted the robbers who pounced on him, beat him up and cut off one of his foot.
At the time of this report, our correspondent reported that all effort to reach the Divisional Police Office (DPO) in Sapele proved abortive.
