Sapele Okpe Community Erect Statue to Honour Dafinone

SAPELE/Nigeria: Sapele Okpe Community in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State has unveiled a statue of late Senator David Omueya Dafinone on the anniversary  of his death, describing  him as a gift to the nation, and hoping his legacy will inspire others into becoming better citizens.

Unveiling the Statue  in Sapele, Okakuro Barr Thompson  Okpoko (SAN)  said the Senator lived for his people “and coming  to unveil his statue today will remind younger generations of our heroes” adding that the late Chartered Accountant “was a pillar to us,  a gift to the Okpe nation, Nigeria as a whole and the world. ”

The Chairman of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), and son of the Guinness book of record award winning late Chartered Accountant, who graced the occasion  with members of his family amongst  other dignitaries, described  the occasion as touching “what Daddy has done was huge but for his people to honour him like this only shows how they hold him in high esteem and we really appreciate them”

Chief Ede Dafinone said the Late Senator’s death anniversary will continue with planting of trees and a reception in his palatial residence where dignitaries are expected from all part of the world.

He told news men that the Dafinones  foundation is to further propagate the gospel of their father and his good name, explaining that they the children were not even aware of some of  the good things he  has done before now until people started recounting them.

He assured the Urhobos that they will never let their people down but to continue from where  their father stopped by taken contributing their own quota to the growth of the entire urhobo land, Delta State and Nigeria in General.

Other dignitaries who attended the unveiling include,  former Minister of Information, Prof Sam Oyovwaire, member representing Sapele at the Delta State House o Assembly, Chief Felix Anirah and a host of others.

Chief Margaret Unukegwo,  a former commissioner in the Defunct Bendel State described late Senator Dafinone as a collosus  whose vacuum would be difficult to fill, stressing that his legacies is still very much noticeable in the entire Urhobo land and Nigeria in General.

She adviced The Urhobos to be United and emulate the virtues  of the the late Owhere of Okpe kingdom so that the entire land will move forward rapidly.
