LAGOS/Nigeria: A call have been made to school owners to embrace and promote the Federal Government Policy on E-learning, as it is very important as it will enhance the academic performances of those in schools
The advice was made by the Proprietress of Simmic group of Schools in Abaranje Ikotun a Suburb area of Lagos State, Dr. Mrs Cecilia Okachi in an interview with this in an exclusive interview, on Monday in Lagos
She has said more emphasised that online learning process in schools among students and Teachers, will go a longway to correct the poor performance during the recently concluded Unified Tertiary matriculation Examination.
She stated that only 40 percent of students were able to have access to Online teaching due to some wealthy parents that can afford to buy those communication gadgets in aiding student learning during the pandemic.
“School owners should embrace government policies on electronic learning process.”
“ need to support this technolical awareness as a means to improve our teaching and learning process.”
“The performance of students these year is poor and no thanks to Covid-19.”
Apart from Covid-19 that stalled physical teaching in schools, there was a problem in the online teaching.
Continuing, she said many students lack digital equipment like functional browseable Android mobile phones, computer set, laptops to mention just few.
Dr Okachi stated that the problem is worst in rural communities, who suffers eractic power supply, to power these gadgets too.
These factors hinder the students from learning online, she said.
She however praised the Government of Lagos State, for encouraging online teaching on Radio and Television’s stations.
She called on parents students and teachers to use the holidays to earning more skills and a little of theory.
“I will urge parents during these season to engage their wards. They have to rest a little.”
“A time to be self reliance to learn vocational skills like computer training, Graphics design, catering and the likes.”
“ also need to watch over their children at home to avoid kidnapping.”
She also talked on school Administration and management during Covid-19 challenges, stating that payment of school fees is not forthcoming as expected.
She said the school, Simmic Group of Schools which have good working relationship with Community Development Association, have spent a lot on training and seminar on Teachers.
