ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has emphasized need for partnership to actualize the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Aniagwu made the call when he played host to a delegation of the Directorate of Sustainable Development Goals, in his office in Asaba, the state capital, led by the Director General, Dr Andy Ilabor.
The commissioner commended, as highly impressive, the efforts of the director general and his team in the last six and half years in driving development in the state using the Sustainable Development Goals platform.
While saying that the SDGs had come to promote a secured and liveable environment for Deltans, appealed for a collective effort, he stated that since the SDG came on board, the state had become more active and committed in creating an enabling environment for all.
He promised to collaborate with the directorate in the area of appropriate sensitization, saying that his ministry had a key role in the media sector.
According to him, giving them a platform would help Deltans to understand the efforts the state government was making, and to also drive the effects of the efforts in the view of addressing challenges that may occur.
Speaking earlier, Dr Ilabor applauded the Commissioner for his efforts in promoting the SMART AGENDA of the Okowa led administration, and also thanked the Commissioner for his support in promoting the affairs of SDG’s in the state.
He disclosed that the key point of their visit was to partner with the ministry in order for the ministry to mirror the projects and programs of the SDG and showcasing it to the outside world in order to build a stronger delta.
Speaking further, Dr Ilabor affirmed that the Sustainable Development Goals will not leave anyone behind in the state, but will also include various communities, private sectors, civil societies, the vulnerable and also the traditional institutions.
Dr Ilabor commended various MDA’s that has ensured the progress of SDG’s and appealed to everyone in the state to contribute in achieving the goals of SDG’s and also for global partnership.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of souvenir to Dr Ilabor by the commissioner and also a presentation of the SDG’s certificate of recognition to the commissioner by Dr Ilabor.
