Second Round 2018 National Immunization Plus Days Commences June 30

ASABA/Nigeria: The Chairman of Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Isioma Okobah has called for a collective effort towards the eradication of polio and other vaccines preventable diseases.

Dr. Okobah made the call in Asaba during the meeting of social mobilization committee, a meeting of relevant stakeholders in the health sector.

The Chairman stated that despite the polio free status of Delta State since the year 2010, there was need for a conscientious effort towards the eradication of polio saying that Nigeria was amongst polio transmitting countries of the world.

She enjoined stakeholders to partner with the Agency in mobilizing the citizenry on the various program organized by the Agency.

According to the Chairman, the second round of the 2018 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) would commence on the 30th June through 3rd July 2018.

On his part, the Executive Director of the Agency, Dr Jude Winful-Orieke, said that the last NIPDs recorded huge success due to the cooperation of stakeholders and enjoined them to also help in disseminating the second round stressing that they were closer to the people.

He also encouraged caregivers to embrace the routine immunization of infants against tuberculosis, poliomyelitis, diphtheria, pertusis, hepatitis B, pneumonia, measles, meningitis, and yellow fever as pregnant women would be given tetanus-diphtheria vaccine to protect them and their unborn babies from the perils of contacting tetanus and diphtheria disease.

The stakeholders promised to create awareness on the programme among their people and suggested ways the Agency could surpass the national target.
